$350,000 Donation Brings Central Library Campaign to the Finish Line.

On May 14, 2014 Halifax Public Libraries launched Share the Wow, the public phase of the capital campaign to equip the new Halifax Central Library set to open in the fall of 2014.

The Halifax Central Library is for you. Your support enriches the public library system in HRM and across Nova Scotia.

Isn’t the Central Library Already Paid For?

The majority of the $57.6 million construction costs for the new Halifax Central Library have been covered through the generous support of the three levels of government.

The Finances

Total Project Cost $57.6 million

Federal Government Contribution $18.3 million
Provincial Government Contribution $13.0 million
Municipal Government Contribution $26.3 million

The Library is required to contribute $5.4 million toward the municipal portion of this total project cost.

Our Goal $5.4 million commitment to capital and overall project cost
$1 million toward library books and materials
  $6.4 million to be raised
